The 24th Harbin Ice and Snow World will have a soft opening on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 12:00 noon. Its official opening date is scheduled on December 22.
Harbin Ice and Snow World is a theme park of the annual International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival in Harbin, capital of China's northernmost Heilongjiang province. The ever-popular extravaganza will feature exquisite ice and snow sculptures, entertainment performances on ice, as well as an array of ice-and-snow-related activities.
This year's main ice sculpture of Harbin Ice and Snow World is called "the Crown of Ice and Snow", which consumed 11,000 cubic meters of ice, and is 41 meters in height. The main body of "the Crown of Ice and Snow" is the Ice and Snow Monument, which is composed of 24 icicles placed vertically, symbolizing the 24th Harbin Ice and Snow World. The element of eighth notes used in the tower platform represents Harbin’s honor as one of the 6 UNESCO Cities of Music. The design of the main tower is based on the lilac flower, which is the symbolic flower of Harbin. The petals form a crown shape, which is majestic, sacred and solemn.
The highlight of the 24th Harbin Ice and Snow World is the Snowflake Ferris Wheel, which is standing at banks of Songhua River as the Eye of Harbin. This giant wheel is as high as a 42-storey residential building.It has 48 cabins for 480 passengers, of which, there are 24 cabins with luxurious interior trim, 4 cabins with a commercial theme, 6 cabins with a theme of parent-child, 6 cabins with a love theme, 8 cabins with a KTV theme. Among those 24 cabins with luxurious interior trim, 6 cabins with a transparent glass bottom are specially provided to enable passengers to enjoy both superexcellent vision and the unique romance of ferris wheel. A snowflake ferris wheel riding is free but a reservation code is required. The park usually releases a reservation code at intervals of half an hour.

Harbin gets dark at around 4 pm in winter. The best time to enter Harbin Ice and Snow World is around 3 pm to appreciate the transparent and shining ice sculptures in the daytime, soon followed by the dazzling colors and light effects at night. It is recommended to spend no more than 4 hours inside the ice world, since it is well below freezing, especially after sunset.
If you want to experience the speed and excitement of icy super slides. You have the choice of 8 ice slides of different sizes. The longest one is 500 meters. It's better to make a reservation or you'll get the experience of waiting in line for more than one hour.

Attend the Harbin Show — a splendid ice-and-snow–themed show combing ice dances, ice magic, clown comedy, catwalk models, ice acrobatics, etc. The Harbin Show is performed by artists from all over the world, three times a day after 5 pm, each show lasting around 40 minutes. Due to COVID-19 measures, the show may be canceled, but as alternatives, group dancing on the Dream Stage, winter sports performances, like figure skating, and other mini-shows are continuously presented.
Last, but also the most important thing to do, keep trying the various (local) food shops. Warm you up with a cup of hot coffee. It is extremely important for you to stay safe in the cold (i.e. warm enough to stop hypothermia or frostbite from the beginning).
