This winter, the Zhaolin Park Ice Lantern Art Fair l will continue to offer free admission to the public and will open on January 1, 2026.
This year's Ice Lantern Art Fair has planned and developed five functional zones: "Ice and Snow Cultural Heritage Zone, Ice Sculpture Art Exhibition Zone, Public Welfare Activities Participation Zone, Ice and Snow Entertainment Zone, and Integrity Culture Publicity Zone." It will also organize public welfare ice sculpture competitions for different groups and in various forms, encouraging broad public participation.
At this year’s Zhaolin Park Ice Lantern Art Fair , a landmark feature titled "The Birthplace of Chinese Ice Lanterns" will be constructed in the front area of the south gate. Drawing on the profound cultural heritage and historical significance of the ice lantern’s origins, this installation aims to showcase Harbin’s more than half-century of ice lantern history, highlighting the rich cultural heritage and developmental journey of this renowned ice and snow tourism city. Additionally, the Harbin Ice Lantern Memory Exhibition will be held, collecting from the public various artifacts, photographs, calligraphy, paintings, and other historical items that reflect the evolution of Harbin’s ice lantern tradition. These will be displayed collectively for residents and visitors, offering insights into the historical development of Harbin’s ice and snow culture.
In the small square in front of the Zhaolin Park Exhibition Hall, live demonstrations of traditional ice lantern making will be held, aiming to rekindle people’s nostalgic memories of ice lanterns. During the event, ice sculptors will guide citizens and visitors in creating classic ice sculptures and traditional ice lanterns such as "ice flowers," "ice lanterns," and "Weideluo."
Beyond admiring ice lanterns, this year’s fair introduces more ice and snow activities. An ice stage, along with ice drums and ice pianos, will be set up near the park’s east hill, featuring performances by the Ice City African Drum Percussion Ensemble. The ice and snow entertainment zone will also include a variety of interactive attractions, such as a fun ice rink, snow tunnel, spaceship slides, an observatory, a galaxy maze, and spinning ice tops.
